Telugu Movie "Arya2" Audio Review

Arya 2 ! (2009) Music Review

Cast :: Allu Arjun,Kajal Agarwal,Navadeep
Music :: Devi Sri prasad
Director :: Sukumar
Producer :: Aditya babu

Remember the last time when this combination of Sukumar,Devi Sriprasad,Allu Arjun came together....well,they created a magic in the form of a movie called Arya.That movie was an eye opener for all such directors who believed in the standard formula of love stories.The music of Arya was exception in the sense that it was fresh,peppy and all the more had very meaningful lyrics.I personally loved Arya songs and so did my family members.We still cant forget what magic DSP and KK delivered in the form of "Feel My Love" song.Moving to 2009,the trio is again back to give us a sequel of Arya in the name of Arya 2.The audio of this movie created big hype and was arriving with a huge expectations ,with initially three songs of the movie getting leaked online and secondly the audio rights being brought by the famous audio brand "SONY BMG" who are known for distritbuting quality music.Lets see how did the audio fare.. (PS: Though producer Mr.Aditya Babu says that Arya 2 has a different story to Arya,but i found uncanny resemblences of the songs in this album to its prequel Arya..)

1.Mr.Perfect - Baba Sehgel,Rita - ***
Would some one ever thought that someday everybody would be listening to a HIP HOP song in telugu.Here it is,ARYA 2 album starts off with a HIP HOP number from DSP.The song starts with our very own tabla beats and it continues almost till the song is done to maintain the HIP HOP touch.The song is all about what are qualities of the hero is and how different he is from others.This song is sung by baba sehgel and written by new lyricist Kedar.Songs like these are cake walk to somebody like baba sehgel who has taken indian rap to a next level.I Somehow feel that baba sehgel does a lot of homework when ever he sings telugu songs and we really dont find any mistakes in the way he sings.The way he says "tando" in the end of each word in the song is very nice and unique.DSP is again at his best in the way he sings those RAP words in the middle of the song.I felt the song would have been more crispy and more better if the lyrics were written with much more sense than saying the hero Mr.Perfect by talking about how bad he is!!!.On the whole very catchy tune and baba sehgel scores with his awesome singing.

2.Uppenantha - KK - *****

When Arya 2 album was getting released,some of my friends told that some of the arya 2 songs are already leaked online and they were not having interest in hearing to the music on the first day.Though i did not hear the songs initially which were leaked online i was wondering how were the audio makers (SONY BMG in this case) were confident about the audio sales.When i heard this song,i thought YES,this was the reason why they were so confident about the audio inspite some of the other songs getting leaked.The song talks about a guy describing how much he love a girl.This is the best song in this album and KK is at his best again.The song starts with a guitar melody and the lyrics written by a new comer kedar is just wonderful.Lines like..

"Chilakale nee paluku..Thirigi palikaayi ante...tholakare lekunda paatheyana...."

i think its been a while for us that we heard words like "tholakari" in telugu songs and kedar should be applauded for using pure and meaningful lyrics for this song.The song is absolutely placed well in terms of music and chorus and singer and i just hope the picturization makes it even more wenderful.DSP should make more of these songs and he should use more of singers like KK who can pronounce the words with utmost ease to make his music better.

3.Baby he Loves you - DSP,Chandrabose - ***

This is the third song in the album and it has DSP and the "arya" touch written all over it.The song talks about a guy explaining how much the other guy loves his girl friend which is something we dont hear in telugu songs and i think thats what makes Arya different from other movies.I somehow feel that chandrabose doesn't write proper lyrics but in this song he does a good job.The way he writes those unique comparisons like "Ghantaasala paata loni bhaavam antha" to describe the extent of love is wonderful and this is just one of those tens of comparisons in the song.Though i kept on hearing the song,i felt there is something that can be improved in this song and i finally consoled myself that the singer is the problem.DSP sings the songs very well but i think songs like these need more passionate voice and a soft voice somebody like karthik,Ranjith or for that matter of fact a budding singer like deepu would have done a good justice to the song.DSP's voice is too husky for songs like these and i think he should realize this atleast in future.

4.Ringa Ringa - Priya Hemesh - **
Remember the Aa ante amalapuram song from Arya.Though i felt that song was not good from the musical sense,that song turned out be an instant hit when the movie got released.That would have provoked the makers to include a smilar song even in Arya 2.Though rajamouli said that this song would become the biggest hit of 2009 in audio function,i somehow personally feel that this song can only just attract the masses to a class movie like Arya 2.This song is a complete mass song and the lyrics are pathetic and vulgur.I should applaud a singer like priya hemesh who is a kannada singer by profession for singing a song with worst lyrics that she cannot understand.This song might become a hit but songs like these doesnt interest me.No Comments beyond that.

5.Karige Lona - Kunal Ganjawala,Meghad - ****

Remember the time when DSP produced music albums like anandam,Sontham,Kalusukovalani.All the songs in these movies had a pattern and they were instant hits.When i first heard this song,I thought DSP just followed that pattern.It starts with that authentic DSP "waves" sound and a ragam that tells what the mood of song is.The music that starts next will make you remember songs like "Chaiyya chaiyya" and "ghuzarish" songs.This song was sung by Kunal Ganjawala and a new female singer called Meghad who was an indian idol 4 contestant last year.I felt kunal's voice was little shaky in this song and the music was dominating his voice and may be they would have done that change to suit to the mood of the song which should have been avoided.The song really picks very well once the female voice comes into the song and the lines sung by Meghad are really good.We really want meghad who is a wonderful singer to sing more and more telugu songs.Overall a good song but with minor glitches.

6.My Love is gone - Ranjith - ***
Days are gone when movies used to have pathetic and slow songs for describing the situation when the hero looses his love.When it comes to Arya,everything is different and so it is,here comes a rock number to express that hero has lost his love.I somehow liked this song and here are my reasons.I liked the way how DSP included those disco beats before the start of the song.Lyrics are OK and neat and the way ranjith renders them is nice.When ever i hear to songs of Ranjith,i feel he doesnt take much pain to sing a song.The way he sings telugu words like "Vayassu,Manishshi,Sarassu,Sogassu" which needs the required stress when they are pronounced is something to appreciate.The songs music is completely modern and it is completely a disco based song,very smilar to the You rock my world song from Arya.

7.Karige Loga (D-Plugged) - Sagar - *****
We always hear various versions of the same song in Hindi music albums and albums of pritam are a good example to that.To my knowledge this is the first time,something new is happening in out Telugu music as we have got a Unplugged (D-Plugged in this case as it played by DSP) in terms of this song.To make it clear,unplugged songs are songs which gives the human voice the respect that it is due and unplugged music is always performed by acoustic instruments mostlly like guitar,flute,mandolin,banjos or drums which doesnt need any electric sound to it.This song needed an unplugged version and i was glad to hear in the voice of sagar who is very clear in the way he pronounces telugu words.Lyrics by vanamali are very meaningful.Some words like

Parugulu theesthu alasina oo nadi nenu,iru theerallo deniki cheruva kaanu.

Wonderful music in the form of guitar played by DSP lead guitarist Amalraj and awesome music arrangement and over all one of my best songs in the album.

Overall,Arya 2 is a very good album with some very meaningful songs and a mass number.I found this album pretty much in terms of its prequel as the nature of songs were similar to the Arya.Though DSP sounds all the more same even with this album,he maintains the required freshness in each song.My picks in this album are uppenantha,karige Loga (both versions),My love is gone.This album is not just meant to listen online,but this is something to hear in a orginal CD and treasure it for future hearing.

See you soon- Sudheer

Telugu Movie Oy!!! Music review

Oy ! (2009) Music Review

Cast :: Siddharth,Shamlee
Music :: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Director :: Anand Ranga
Producer :: Danayya DVV

1.Oy ! Oy ! - Siddharth - Four Stars

Oy !! was one of the most awaited music albums for this year till date.This was for two main reasons-one that yuvan shankar raja was going high after his straight hits in tamil like "Siva Manusula Sakthi" and "Sarvam" and other being hero siddharth being the music producer for this album.To start with and keeping their promise sidharth and yuvan start with a bang with this awesome title song.Sung and performed by siddharth who does well to sing this song.Credits to him for learning the telugu language and trying to sing songs by himself.There is a freshness in his voice and iam sure he would be singing more and more in the near future .The song is a nice fast song and it mainly lives on live drums which has been done really well by "V.Kumar" who has been yuvan's live drummer for many years now and i could says responsible for his latest hits too.The lyrics are just ok but since the tune is so catchy that each listener ends up humming the tune..some superb lines such as

Oy! Oy ! antu casual ga pilicherooo..... Oy !! Oy !! 20 sarlu kallo kalisero..Oy!! Oy!!.empty gunde ninda nilicheroo.....oooh ooh Oy!!!!

are very funny but yet make you feel attracted to the song.Credit to yuvan for his use of drums to make this song and a Hi-Fi to V Kumar for his fabolous drumming.

2.Saradaga - Karthik,Sunidhi Chauhan - Three stars
I just could not believe my eyes when i saw sunidhi's name joined with karthik in the credits of this song,i thought how could yuvan pull out this combination.This song is neat love number where the heroine asks the hero what he can do for her and the hero explaining what his love is !!! .Ananth sriram is one of my current favourite telugu lyricists for the way he gives importance to those neat telugu words and for his telugu essence is very good and i could say he has the talent to become one more "siri vennala seetaramasastry".He is just 24 and iam sure he is the lyricist to reckon for in our telugu film industry.The way he writes "meghalani mootakattukoni ningi majjalo parigedathaava" :) has a very good poetic feel to it.Karthik is as usual at his best and sunidhi i can say she has improved her telugu pronouciation by leaps and bounds.over all a good song with very meaningful lyrics and cool singing by the two professionals.

3.Waiting For you - KK - Four stars
The first impression somebody would get when they see KK's name in a song which has some eglish lyrics is that he would repeat the same magic he did it for "Feel my Love" in arya,but to every ones suprise this song has complete telugu lyrics with just " Iam Waiting for you baby" in eglish !!! I believe that KK is one of few singers in india who is gifted with an absolute voice to handle both low and high pitches,thats a rear talent and thats the reason he can sing any song with utmost ease.This song is no exception and KK does a great job to handle it well.Its basically a slow melodious piano number which talks about a person who is deeply hurt in love :) Vanamali does a good job in penning the lyrics for the song and i could say KK does a very good job in pronouncing each and every word in the song.Claps to yuvan/Sidharth for selecting KK to sing this song as i felt he could be the only singer who could have done full justice to this number.A very nice song and one of my favourites in the album.

4. Anukoledenadu -Shreya Goshal - Three starts
This song could be possibly an introduction song for the heroine for the most awaiting heroine of the year (Shamili/baby Shamili).This song describes a happy go lucky girl who just loves each and everything thats going around her.Vanamali again for you and he does a good job again.The way he uses the words "andarlo ee naadu silanai unna...nadi sandram lo ee naade alanainaana" is beautiful.Shreya goshal is another perfect example to show that language is not a barrier for a perfectly trained classical/carnatic singers and she just outplays this song with her usual ease and peppyness in her voice. She gets almost right in her pronouciation except for a line in the song where she says "nonnu" instead of "nannu" and thats something negligable for her singing and as usual she is an apt choice to sing this song and she rocks.Thanks to yuvan for this melody and to shreya as well.

5.Povodhe Prema - Yuvan Shankar Raja - Three stars
The first and the foremost impression which we get when we hear this song for the first time is the way it resembels the modern "Pritam" and "Shankar Ehsaan Loy" type songs in movies like "METRO" and "ROCK ON" respectively.After hearing it for many more times we eventually like it.Yuvan composes and sings this song and he strikes the right node in this song.Yuvans voice is more like his father Illayaraja who is popular for his slow melodies and yuvan follows the same path too.The song demands strong feelings of a badly hurt lover and yuvan does a good job in getting the feelings well in the song.I still felt that yuvan was not as clear as he could be at the high notes of the song like the below lines....

"Marujanme unna dante bramhanaina adigedi okate....."

The way yuvan used the interludes of piano and guitar is exellent in the song and Lyrics by vanamali are meaninful too,mainly the way he uses the line "Nuvvu Unte Nenu Unta ..Prema !!!" is really nice.A nice song and a perfect choice by yuvan to put himself on for singing this song.

6.Seheri - Toshi,priya -Four stars
I was so exited when i saw the credits for this song and that was because of two things,One that it was sung by one of my favourite singers "TOSHI" for the very first time in telugu and this song was written by my engineering batch mate "PV Krishna Chaitanya".Keeping these two things aside and thinking putting the critics hat on,i would say this song is the second best song in the album and i think thats the reason why the album producer (sidharth this time) placed this song strategically at the end of the Cassette/CD.Well this song is about the male and female talking about the different ways to live life :) Toshi was a runner up in the STAR VOICE OF INDIA which was conducted in 2008 and i could say he is one of the most talented singers in bollywood.This song is his first telugu song as a playback singer and he does a neat job.Though we can make out that this song is sung by a north indian,there are at times when Toshi pronounces somewords to utmost perfection that makes this song lovable when we hear for the first time.Yuvan uses a mix of piono and drumpads and music is really catchy.Lyrics are neat and simple in terms of telugu that was used and i hope PVK improves much more in the movies to come.On a whole a very nice song and good luck to TOSHI for his telugu music journey.

Oy !! is a good album and something different than the usual telugu albums.On the audio function siddharth mentioned that he being the producer of the album ,he wanted to repeat the magic created by his mentor "Mr.Mani Ratnam" and "Illayaraja" in all their movies .Though they are yet to do it,Oy stands as a stepping stone for them to reach that magical stage !!! Good music,refreshing tunes and good selection of singers for all the songs by yuvan .On a lighter vein,this is one such very common albums in telugu recently which doesnt have not even one telugu singer on its credits.Anyway,hope to see yuvan again in telugu trying out some fresh music with all telugu singers next time :)

This album is certainly a worth buy and my picks are Oy Title track,Waiting for you and seheri !!!

Telugu Movie "Current" Music Review

1.You are My Love - DSP
DSP all the way,he composes and he sings it by himself and guess what the english lyrics are also written by himself and i could say he sounds pretty much same as we have heard since "andamaina bhamalu" in manmadhudu.This song is a peppy love number which goes pretty fast.I really dont know why these days much of english words are included in telugu songs .Is it because people are liking english lyrics or are lyricists short of telugu words ? dont know. There is a good use of techno drums and impressive digital mixing done which makes this song neat and audible.The way Devi says "Baby you R my Love,baby ur My darling,my feeling,my reason to Live !!!"is impressive.On a whole Devi should seriously consider of changing something in the way he sings or try considering giving the songs to some other singer,A decent song.Three stars from me !!!

2.Rekkalu - Sagar,Ranina
An authentic DSP number and you can very well make it out in the starting of the song when the high string veena musical bit sets the mood .This song is very catchy and you will end up humming the song soon after you hear it for the first time.Lyrics are ok again and the lyricist -bhaskarabhatla does a decent job not writing more complicatedwords.Its nice to see sagar again in the back of the CD ,remember his soothing number in arya(Nuvvante)?.This time around DSP tried sagar in a fast number than the regular slow songs in which we heard sagar till date and he sings it with good pronounciation,ranina a budding tamil singer does an OK job.DSP's chorus adds some value to the song.Melodious number and very easy to hum around.Three stars from me

3.Ammayilu Abbayilu - Franco,Andrea
There are at times when DSP goes a step beyond and makes some songs which are completely out of the telugu mood,i think this song is a perfect example of that.Sung by a malayali singer Franco whom we heard last time around in "Ayyo Ayyo Dhannaya" in "READY"and where thought he was much more better in that song.The female voice is given by a tamil singer/actress Andrea Jeremiah, and both of them sound decent enough.This time around ramajogayya sastry does not give us decent lyrics and again this time occupied by english sentences than words.The tune which reminds us some of the recent hindi songs is not impressive too..An average song and a simple Two from my side.

4.Current -Benny,DSP
This song is the fourth track in the album and i can say the best in the lot.Sung by Benny Dayal and DSP and lyrics by ramajogayya sastry again.This song is well written and even though there are plenty words of ENGLISH words written by ranina and divya, i personally thought those words were needed for the mood of the song.The song starts with an impressive music of Electric wires making a buzzing sound and DSP asking us what "CURRENT" is?The rest of the song answers us what "CURRENT" means !!! an awesome thought for a movie TITLE song :)
DSP shows his brilliance of what he can do with various intruments,there are pieces of guitar intro,veena,drums and the way he says

"Zarrumantu Volluantha paake feeling ye ra CURRENT".

Benny Dayal came a long way after his entry as a chorus singer in SIVAJI, and now singing atleast one song for AR Rehman in all his movies.I think the so called "REHMAN" training is taking him to a new level.Being a malayali by birth,he sounds good in those tough and fast telugu words and he is very impressive at his diction and iam sure we are going to hear from him more and more in future.A complete four for this number.Way to go devi,we need more of this from you !!!

5.Atu Nuvve Itu Nuvve -Neha Bhasin
Remember the VIVA group which channel "V" bought up few years back?I think few of us remember the band as they split up because of some differences.This is one way good for us as it gave us five awesome individual singers and one of them is NEHA BHASIN.I just feel amazed with the way this lady pronounces other languages words.For a girl who is born and brought up in delhi,its way too tough to understand what tamil/telugu songs are.She does a fabolous job in this song and the way she brings those extra feelings in the song are worth commending.Lyrics are good and they are just beatiful..An authentic DSP number and on the face of it we can easily know that the music director is DSP.It reminds of the some of the great soothing songs which DSP has given us in the films like sontham,anandam,kalusukovalani and Khadgam.With this song again ending in the album,DSP makes a point that he can even rocks in scoring good melodious songs.An out and out five frome me..

Over all,a decent album with three good songs and two average songs.Good mucic by DSP and awesome blend of budding singers.On a serious note, a change is needed in the way lyrics are written these days for telugu movies and iam sure you will also agree with me.There is only song in this movie without any english lyrics and that song simply stands out in all the songs in the album.That shows the importance of what lyrics are and why we need more sirivennala seetarama sastry in our telugu movies.If you like modern music and if you dont mind the usage of english words/sentences in telugu songs i would surely recommend this album to you and my picks are atu nuvve itu nuvve and CURRENT title song.

See you soon with one more review from me.
